There is a certain space between the body and the soul.
They are altogether one yet separate;
   That gap between what's real and what's ideal.

For the body grounds the soul, which longs to soar;
And the brain can't fathom the things the soul knows for sure--
   Like that animals can feel, that true love is real.

And the heart keeps ticking away, stuck between these two,
Striving to figure out which one is right;
   Stuck between two realms that are just as tangible and just as surreal.

The brain can't comprehend that two soul mates can come to life to find each other again,
That a human and an animal can be family,
   That no matter how alone you are, you're always surrounded.

But the soul knows that those words that are most fleeting are the most true;
Those moments when suddenly they surge into your ear
   But there's no pen or paper in sight to grab them and put them down.

They slip away, so wet like water down a fall,
And then they're lost forever in eternity,
   Perhaps grabbed by another who was in the right place at the right time.

You're grounded again.
There go those lucid seconds, distraction's back again, the logic's set back in;
   Waiting for the next time the truth will push on through.
